Trio Valore

(Damon Minchella / Steve White / Seamus Beaghen)

Trio Valore sing a simple song, they preach a sermon of groove and carry the torch of a great legacy forward, aiming their music at the heart and the feet - a dance band in the old school style.  This summer, the band will release their first autonomous album  Return of the Iron Monkey”  and from May 2008 will begin touring to promote the release.

Trio Valore already have a mass of media interest and a heavyweight fan base thanks to the the pedigree of the musicians involved. This, combined with the extensive promotional activity planned for the Spring is enough to make every discerning music fan sit up and take notice.

The band performs as a trio for a high-octane live show, then a DJ set, creating a unique package that completes the perfect  night: A band & club night that is total value for money.

Podcast 2007 (a good year for the music)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my friends.  Yes it's still the Xmas day while I'm writing this blog, my belly is so full of panettone, chocolate sweets and wine I'd better do something relaxing. Like playing my fave music of the year. And trying a sorta podcast to share it with You. So here there are 15 tracks amongst the most significant for me, and here's the list and why.

01 THE ANYDAYS - I feel free
I discovered this beat band in 2006 thanks to myspace and their first single and following demos. But in 2007 they released one of my top albums on this new millenium, "Sound". "I feel free" is representing the whole album here. Welcome to the new beat vision.

02 THE SIGHTS - Joanna (demo)
No new album in 2007, "only" 4 new demos available on myspace. But, what the hell of terrific demos! "Joanna" is a modern instant classic, a miniopera that starts like Nazz, morphing into Billy Nicholls and Dodgy, with a drop of Small Faces hammond perfume and ending in full psychedelic soft smoke. Classic!

03 PHILOMANKIND - Man of make believe
The most original Italian new (beat/pop/60s influenced/psych) band. Full stop. the Piaggesi brothers in their recent Who trip. Benjamin (expecially the original demo) was fantabulous, like 67' Who sung by Mamas&papas and Abba. And this song is another little masterpiece. Their technical and melodical skill is well over the standards. and so is the composition.

04 COOLJERK - No use in crying
Another new young band I'm totally devoted to.  2 singles, both great! Cant wait for the album. They play clean soul and rnb, sometimes remind me of early 80s british bands doing soul, but they are much much better than e.g. Joboxers. CoolJerk know how to produce with style, how to leave the sound clean and not jammed in instrumentation, the art of keep it simple, like Costello and his engeneer Bechirian in the late 70s.

05 BABY CHARLES - Back of my hand
A band suggested me by many friends of the Uk funk scene, like a sorta european answer to the Dap-Kings. Under contract with my own town's label Record Kicks, they released this genuine soulful single and I loved it since the first spin. Live they are even better! Waiting for them in Milano for the forthcoming album's showcase in february!

06 MODUS - The snake
These Scottish Mod(u)s  published their debut album in 2007. I met them in Rimini 2 years ago and I've been impressed by their live act and demos. They are really a classy act, Sarah is a beauty with a beautiful voice, and Rod a very good producer. There's not a  bad track on the album, so I choose The Snake only cos I played already on my caplog. Recommended.

07 GRAHAM DAY & THE GAOLERS - Too few things
Our hero is back, new band, new album, on tour already with a date here in Italy in january. For every fan I know this is one of the best songs of the album, and I agree 100%. It's up there with Graham 's "best of" ever. Powerful and melodic. Classic Day stuff. We have never enough of this.

08 DAVID POTTS - I'm the greatest
One of the first albums I bought in 2007. To be honest the album is not all good, but this single is like early Supergrass and early Who together. I like the riff a lot, the guitar and double voice with falsetto. He's not the greatest but this is his greatest  song without doubts.

09  SHARON JONES & THE DAP-KINGS - Nobody's baby
Much much much (the maximum) r-e-s-p-e-c-t  to Daptone (records and productions). The recent album "100" of Sharon Jones is, imho, less immediate and danceable than the previous two, too many slow numbers probably. But  Nobody's baby is magic for me. Another classic in the making.

10 DR ROBERT & PP ARNOLD - Five in the afternoon
Another top 10 album for me. If I say Heavenly duet, thats not a sin to pronounce, they are a perfect mix. Pat sings so well like she always did, and Rob's melodies and arrangement suit perfectly her voice and pathos. I play the title track, but i could play any other song from the album, they are all good!

11 THE HAGGIS HORNS - Hot damn!
Introduced to me by my very good friend Kelly Dickson long ago. Another album I played a lot in the last months even if I knew already some of the songs, released before as singles. The best soul/funk horn section this side of the ocean(s).

12  THE JAMES TAYLOR QUARTET - You beat me to the punch
James' Motown album is amongst my faves in his huge discography. It's the first JTQ album in years and years that I really enjoy playing from start to finish (he can't do 'bad' albums, of course, but sometimes his releases are 'hard' to stand in full, like The Oscillator or A taste of cherry) And this song in particular always send me to aureal paradise. A rare case of a cover I like more than the original.

13 OCEAN COLOUR SCENE - On the leyline, waiting
Sales were disappointing, out of the charts forever, blame the bad distribution (no copies arrived e.g. in the italian record shops) but they last album was good! very good! I liked even Foxy's ballads this time! the song I choose sounds a lil bit like the La's. I like it, but, like La's sounds, its soo short, too short.

14 PAUL WELLER & GRAHAM COXON -  This old town (Live)
And talking of OCS, the first time I played this -vinyl only- single I rated it poorly. OCS's version was better, more fluid and (northern) soulful, Coxon singing out of tune, I also dont like Zak Starkey's drumming style, (imho the only let-down of the latest Oasis album was because of Zak's intrusive heavy beats).
Then I started to change my mind on "This old town", I like it now. I like the middle eight addon (written by Coxon!) that sounds like coming from "All mod cons". I played this song a lot, expecially the version recorded Live for Jonathan Ross, with Mani on bass. It's not very different from the studio version, but more powerful. Details make the difference.

15 PAUL WELLER & ANDY LEWIS - Are you trying to be lonely.
Not much to say. This is the single of the year. a N.1 in our hearts. Months and months of playing and Im still not bored or tired.  let's end then with a funny story of E.S.P. and "(small) dreams come true"...
It was april 2007 when Eddie Piller (Acid Jazz boss) on his blog wrote: <..> may 16th - Heavy Soul, Petrol Club, Antwerp. Belgium - this is the big one of the year, a line up that includes me alongside Keb Darge, Andy Lewis, Thierry Steuve, Lefties Soul Connection and a special celebrity spinning guest. Soul and funk and more. worth the trip<..> At the time we Weller fans knew already Paul was the special guest dj, so I replied explaining my wishes and hopes <...>about time to produce him and release a new soul single on acid jazz! think abt it when you'll speak with your new "collegue" in belgium...<..>  Well... I didnt know Paul was actually planning to release a single with Andy Lewis, nobody told me, honest!. Nobody could expect Weller to be on Acid Jazz. So, when, one month or two later, the first whispers were floating around, I've been so shocked cos it was like a premonition.... a good premonition infact!

Staxipedia Express
Why the singles got to be less than three and half minutes long?

"The three-minute rule comes from the States, from the '50s. The people who owned  restaurants where all the kids were hanging out drinking Coca-Cola, wanted them to feed the jukeboxes more regularly, so they pressured for shorter singles. Can you believe that? Some geezer and his hamburger-flipping mates (fifty years ago) are the reason why musicians still have to write three-minute pop songs!" Noel Gallagher

Caplog's Long Hot Covers Summer
www.modradiouk.net

LHCS Mod Radio Uk
I collected together some of my favourite covers, as played on last season's caplog, to make an "interim" summer show for mod radio uk waiting for my 4th year transmissions that will start mid september. here's the playlist and some comments.

01 harvest for the world - paul carrack

[mr carrack may be considered an uncool persona in some mod circles, but it's actually one of the soulest white voices coming out of britain. I remember him with ace before and then with squeeze. his later solo works are sometimes too "plastic" sounding and aor, but I love this version of the isley anthem]

02 my ever changing moods - jacksoul

[I discovered jacksoul thanks to myspace, I think his style council's cover is top. maximum well wishes to him in this difficult times, he recently had a terrible accident with his vespa, still fighting the injuries and recovering]

03 you're losing me - kelly dickson

[kelly is the singer of white/minchella/talbot's players, and thanks to this connection, and the italian concerts of the band, we became very good friends (I love her, first sight :) . this is coming from an unreleased 4 tracks demo, a faithful funkful remake, ann sexton's style]

04 summer in the city - incognito feat carleen anderson

[carleen's voice always gives me an inner shake, touching my very soul. she and anita baker have this power on me, a few others. this is from the latest, great!, incognito album]

05 melody - bill wyman feat georgie fame

[originally from the black n blue album, the stones at  maximum blues, influenced and guided by billy preston (god bless him). here we have their ex-bass player's orchestra with mighty georgie fame on vocals for a fantastic "new" take]

06 right back where we started - smashing time

[like mr hipshaker said: "maxine nightingale version is ace but smashing time's version's got that classic four  to the floor northern soul beat, big brass and a storming harmonica solo". yeah I second that, I love this band]

07 you're my best friend - giuliano palma

[italian n.1 contemporary bluebeat singer, soulful voice.  Personally I dont like remakes of classics in ska/bluebeat style, but this is a rare exception. yes, and he's covering queen! great  version]

08 blitzkrieg bop - beautiful south

[I used to love paul heaton. housemartins, early beautiful south, I have all of his records, singles and all. then I've lost the plot (or maybe he did) this is recent, sweety cover of my teenage punk heroes the ramones]

09 there she goes - the boo radleys

[lovely cover of a bonafide la's modern classic, by martin carr's band, a cover I discovered only recently on a movie  original soundtrack. sweet (eggman?) singing, only handclaps are a  lil bit annoying]

10 sounds from the street - nick heyward

[blame pete twyman of pimlico/andy lewis band for this. some months ago he discovered a  mid 90s tv session of nick' band, the ex haircut 100 golden boy is a huge jam/weller fan, and this jingly-jangly (unreleased) version of the 77 track is (sorry for the nasty word) fucking great! stop slaggin him off!]

11 knowing me knowing you - wondermints

[ex n.1 beach boys tribute band who became brian wilson's backing band. like in a dream. here they fight against one of those perfect abba melodies we all hiddenly love, making it a beat/powerpop track with even some beatles revolver-era bass patterns]

12 I see the rain- matthew sweet & susanna hoffs

[possibly one of me faves "british nuggets" classic, by  marmalade. I dont know if graham coxon knew this song when  him and blur were writing "modern life is rubbish" but some chords structures could have been an inspiration. here the song is played by  an odd duet,  ex bangle meets a very promising english singer songwriter. I love it!, the best off their covers album]

13 my sweet lord - five thirty

[oh gawd! if only 5:30 didnt hate themselves and survived some years into the britpop times! they were ahead of their times, a great late 80s early 90s band, their only album another of those timeless modern classics. 5:30 here do harrison, a rare recording from vinyl only "alvin lives in leeds", it starts normally then on speed]

14 debris - simply red

[this will generate controversy in the modradio high floors! :o)  everybody hates the ginger twat haha. but 1) he, like paul carrack, has a great white soul voice and still working good after 20 years and 2) this is an hearful tribute, well played and sung, to the late ronnie lane. respect!]

15 arnold layne - david gilmour feat. david bowie

[one of the very few pink floyd songs I can stand, in all  honesty :)  a performance from last year, released on a limited edition ep. bowie's not bad on it actually!]

16 I dont need no doctor - paul weller

[paul with the full jools holland rnb orchestra. what a great ultra-mod version of the ashford/ray charles/humble pie classic.  cool as only the modfather can be.  he should release this kind of covers with this kind of backing bands instead of records (with "unfinished" feel and underproduced) like "studio 150"!]

enjoy the cap

Andy Lewis & Paul Weller: single of the year!

Are You Trying To Be Lonely

Andy Lewis met Paul Weller whilst acting as backline tech for the band Dogs. Paul had heard of Andy's album of 2005, "Billion Pound Project", and had liked what he had heard.

When asked what he was up to at the moment, Andy pressed upon Paul a CD of works in progress. One of the tunes stood out, a soul-inspired stomper with a nagging horn riff and a gut-wrenching key change.

A late night phone call, a few trips to a studio in deepest Surrey and a large number of light ales later, Acid Jazz records is proud to present "Are You Trying To Be Lonely?".

Featuring one of the strongest vocals from Weller in many a year, it's the first single to be taken from the new album from Andy Lewis, "You Should Be Hearing Something Now!" and will be released in September 2007, shortly before the album.

For more information about Andy Lewis, check out www.myspace.com/andylewisuk or www.andylewis.info . For more about Paul Weller, check out all the great records he's released over the last 30 years...

Dr Robert & PP Arnold launch new album on myspace

Dr Robert & PP Arnold

from : www.myspace.com/drrobertandpparnold (click the photo to go)

Dr Robert , the The Blow Monkeys main man, has teamed up with soul legend, P P Arnold, for a brand new album of duets.

"Five in the Afternoon" takes its name from the poem "Lament For Ignacio Sanchez Mejias", by Spanish poet laureate Federico Garcia Lorca, and was recorded over a three-week period in the sweltering heat of an Andalusian summer in the Spanish port town of Motril.

This is the first time the two artists have worked together, although neither is new to collaboration: P P Arnold having famously appeared with Ike and Tina Turner, The Small Faces, Nick Drake , Primal Scream and Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) to name but a few; and Robert having previously sung with Curtis Mayfield, Paul Weller, Cheb Khaled and Kym Maselle.

Written and produced by Dr Robert, the album features ten new songs of street soul and folky funkiness - a tonic for troubled times.. A natural fusion of two distinctive voices complementing and urging each other on to create an uplifting (I Saw Something), moving (Stay Now) and even, congregational, sound (Satellite).

The nights were long and magical and days were filled with sunshine … and just a little bit of rain.

"I met Pat at a party up here in the mountains," says Robert. "We jammed a bit and it just clicked and I knew we had to work together. The songs came really quickly - Pat has a timeless voice. Total Soul. And I had to give her "real songs" to sing. She’s ‘A’ list, no bullshit, and it has been a real honour to work with her."

The album has an earthy quality which owes much to the style of the players involved such a bass player Marco Nelson (Young Disciples) and drummer Crispin Taylor (Galliano), and was recorded virtually live with very few overdubs. " With players this good and Pat singing, it would have been a crime to do it any other way. Sometimes the feeling was so good that you forgot you were recording and just drifted away with the music."

Five in the Afternoon will be released September 10, 2007. The album will be supported by a UK tour and a fully co-ordinated TV and press campaign.

Track listing is as follows:

Nothin’ But Love
Be My Judge
What Am I To Do?
Careless Blues
Five In The Afternoon
I Saw Something
Stay Now
Ghost Of Winter
Shape It For Me
Satellite

MISTERTOKIO & THE BEAT GOES ON

laradioTitle: La Radio
Format: Promo CDsingle / iTunes
Cat No: MS005SGL Raiser / HKM
Release Date:
November 2006

entra nelle case e ci parla direttamente

entra nelle case e ci parla direttamente

CHICO HAMILTON back to the FUNK!

Bloody hell! If you don't know yet, our fave dealer, THE Dealer, Mr Chico Hamilton will be a young mod of 85 in september! So what's his better way to celebrate this very special year than releasing 4 (four!) new albums? ...And me and (some of) you are here, struggling and straggling with our minds because we are turning forty! Get a life and get inspiration! Let's go to the Joyous Shout website and see what they say about these 4 (four!) brand new Hamilton's and some very special guests:

Chico Hamilton “Juniflip” The first of four new discs that Chico Hamilton will release around his 85th birthday. Always HIP and ever the consummate MODERNIST, Chico brings us a swinging affair, featuring his “Euphoria” group (Cary DeNigris, Paul Ramsey, Evan Schwam, Karolina Strassmayer, Andrew Hadro, Jeremy Carlstedt) and special guest the late, legendary Love front-man Arthur Lee, Bill Henderson, former Hamilton band members George Bohanon and Jimmy Cheatham. Each guest lends his unique and distinct voice to the different journey that is "Juniflip". Thru every track (incl. mod classics "Yeh Yeh" and "If You Think You're Groovy") Chico invites the listener along on a SINGULAR, SINGING and SWINGING adventure!!

Chico Hamilton "Believe" The legacy continues. Hot on the heals of "Juniflip", Chico swings with GUSTO and VERVE on "Believe". Up front and center is a special guest appearance from legendary vocalist and R & B diva Fontella Bass on three tracks, former Hamilton band member trombonist George Bohanon on six tracks including a swinging arrangement by Cary DeNigris of The Who’s "The Kids Are Alright". Foreststorn "Chico" Hamilton is a NEA JAZZ MASTER and Still THE Man for EVERY GENERATION!!

Chico Hamilton "6th Avenue Romp" With each successive release turning up the heat on the 85th Birthday celebration, Chico brings back the FUNK on "6th Avenue Romp". Continuing the amazing run of guest spots are: vocalist Brenna Bavis and Allman Bros' Jaimoe on the Smokey Robinson gem "You Really Got A Hold On Me"; Jon Faddis; guitarist Shuggie Otis’! Slipping up inside songs out of the R & B cannon, Chico and his "Euphoria" group spin swinging bold and beautiful arrangements of timeless classics including: Jr. Walker & The Allstars "Cleo’s Mood" and "Cleo’s Back"; Bill Wither’s "Ain’t Got No Sunshine"; Blaze’s "Elevation"; Booker T & The MG’s "Chicken Pox"; and Stevie Wonder’s "I Believe". Every track is a lesson in the Hamiltonian drum ethic!! Chico invites the listener to join him and his cohorts in bringing back the FUNK on "6th Avenue Romp".

Chico Hamilton “Heritage” TBA (feat. guest appearances from George Bohanon and Marya Lawrence).

...and if 4 albums are not enough...2006 also sees the release of a DJ'ing remix tribute to Chico Hamilton, "SOULFEAST PRESENTS CHICO HAMILTON- THE GROOVE MASTER RE-FUZED", featuring remixes from Still Phil, MKL vs. Soy Sos, DJ Smash, and Soulfeast- Joaquin "Joe" Claussell and Brian Michel Bacchus. BTW my personal lil tribute to the living legend, a "radio edit" of his cover of Paul Weller's "Bull Rush" can be played at the SGR Music myspace.

cheers the cap

Applecore
PAOLO APOLLO NEGRI | APPLECORE

Wow! Why? Why Paolo "Apollo" Negri in the SGR Webjournal? If you are Hammond lovers, then Paolo doesn't need any introduction, you know by now he's simply one of the best young Euro-organists around. But if you're just approaching the ebony'n'ivorylands of Hammond , here's a good way to start.  And if you're wondering, no, Paolo is not a new recruit of SGR (not yet, who knows? ).  I'm simply a fan and a friend, and I love to spread the good news when it's worth.

APPLECORE is one of Apollo's brand new projects, an almost religious and pure tribute to his maestros. You can play three tracks from the forthcoming minialbum clicking the cover and going straight to his newborn myspace page. Some fantastic music is waiting for you there!

Cheers the cap, Limito (Mi) August 2006

Paolo Apollo Negri, born in 1979, starts his musical career in 1992 with a prog trio called Nice Price, realizing a mini-album and a few compilations. The Hammond organ, his foundamental instrument, is soon reached by several vintage machines such as Moog and ARP synthesizers, electric pianos, Eminent and Mellotron.

In 1997 starts his collaboration with The Link Quartet, a sixties lounge/acid jazz ensemble. With this band publishes two 45 and the first album, for the spanish label Animal Records, two albums for the american Hammondbeat Records (the same label that will publish a series of official bootleg of the band) and one album for the italian Recordkicks. On Italian Playboys, published in a double European/American version, the band take the opportunity to work with Dj Ninfa, Doug Roberson and Eddie Roberts from The New Mastersounds. The Link Quartet is involved in several compilations and works with some of the most important labels from Europe and USA (such as Sony, Acid Jazz, Saifam). With this band Paolo performs all over Europe and, in 2003 and 2004, all over USA too, meeting on the stage musicians like Manu Chao, Brian Auger, The Yardbirds, James Taylor Quartet, Bonniwell Music Machine, The Chocolate Watchband, Big Boss Man, The Men from S.P.E.C.T.R.E., Diplomats of Solid Sound, Downliners Sect, Montefiori Cocktail, Boogaloo Investigators and many more.

In the year 2000 he joins the Wicked Minds line up, a hard-progressive band with whom he realizes three albums, the first for W-Records (Italy) and the following two for Black Widow Records (Italy), the second one of those followed by a live DVD, receiving the ovation from a great number of specialized magazines all over the world and perfoming across Europe, sharing stage with Delirium, Areknames, Osanna, Mr.Man, Colour Haze, Siena Root, Birth Control and many others and appearing, among the others, at Burg Herzberg Festival (2006) in Germany with Soft Machine, UFO, Wishbone Ash, Hatfield & The North and Greg Lake.

In 2001 he plays on the main stage of Arezzo Wave with John Belpaese, opening for Max Gazzè. In 2002 starts his collaboration with Ray Daytona and Googoobombos and realizes Fasten seat belt album for Ammonia Records (with the incredible cover done by Winston Smith). The album is followed by an intense live tour in 2003. In the same period he collaborates with Titty Twisters Orchestra recording the album for Gonna Puke Records (Italy) and playing at the Wild Weekend in Spain.

In 2005 he joins Mastica, a psichedelic prog band considered one of the best bands in the sixties circuit and, after many gigs all over Europe including preformances at the Magic Festival in Spain, the Beat Bespoke in London and a tour in Finland and Sweden, realizes a 45 for the swedish label Crusher Records and an LP and a CD for the italian Misty Lane Records. In 2006 the band is again in studio recording their new full lenght album for the italian Sound and Vision, supported by Venus distribution.

The 2006 sees the beginning of a new collaboration with the new born UP-ALL-LOW records, a small italian label devoted to experimental sound, realizing The day the time machine got broken, a studio live performance in duo with Lucio Calegari, guitar player of Wicked Minds. Considered one of the finest Hammond player in Italy and Europe, he also collaborates as graphic designer with W-Records, Teen Sound Records, Black Widow Records and Hammondbeat under the nickname of Apollos garden of earthly delights. In studio he has collaborated with: The Rookies, Je ne taime plus, David Stockdale, No Limits, Sim, Anatre Supreme, Kims Teddy Bears, Dj Gianluca Pighi, Paisley Windowpaine, John Belpaese, J.C. Cinel, Dark Horizon, Vendetta and many others.

This same year he starts a collaboration with Dj Henry Lazzeri, well known in the mod scene, creating Party Hard, an explosive duo devoted to Hammond Groove and Soulful House, and records his first solo project,  Applecore, a loving instrumental tribute to 60 soul-jazz underlining his unique style and skillness in the use of the Hammond organ.

Players a Milano! (Blue Note 05/06 maggio 2006)

( Apologies but this press release is mainly intended for our Italian readers. Any question from abroad: promo@sexygroovyrhythms.com )

E' ufficiale! Ulteriori date Italiane saranno confermate a breve.

Mick Talbot -  tastiere e piano
Steve White - batteria
Damon Minchella - basso
Ken Papenfus - chitarra e voce
Kelly Dickson - voce
Carl Papenfus - percussioni e voce

BLUE-EYED SOUL TEAM

Summer 2005: from the split of the Marcus Pepper Love Revue comes the birth of the Blue-Eyed Soul Team (whose acronym B.E.S.T. recalls the ironical exaggerations of the names of some black groups of the past), composed from the same formation that did the last concert under the name Love Revue, held in May 2005, before "yielding" definitively the original name to one of the founder members that had left the group.
The new name of the band, chosen after endless brainstorming about many proposals, is an idea of Gino De Angelis (bass-player of the band, see below) and it's based on the term "Blue-Eyed Soul", the nth attempt of "labeling" a branch of black music: in this case it's the term used (mostly in the Sixties) to identify Soul music played by "white people". In order to celebrate the new beginning, at the end of July the Soul Team begins the recording of a "demo CD" with five tracks; after three days of job at the Pop Life Studios of Milan, and after some sessions of remixing, the record is ready.

The selected songs are already part of the new live repertoire: five classics not extremely known to the great masses, but of sure interest for the connoisseurs; included in the track list there is a "retroactive" arrangement of "H.A.P.P.Y. Radio", a hit from Edwin Starr in the period of Disco Music, revisited in up-tempo style for speaking the more typical language of the highly acclaimed Motown Records of Detroit between the Sixties and the first Seventies, with a contagious passage of handclapping as a true vintage floorfiller, and another one from the repertoire of Starr as well (but this time from the Sixties), picking up a classic finger-snappin' like "S.O.S. (Stop Her On Sight)", in which are enjoyable the interlaced vocals supporting the main melody.

The other three selected songs have a special value for most experts of the genre, for which they don't need no introduction, but for all the other listeners it will be enough to know that "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)" by Frank Wilson is by many considered the rarest 45" of the Soul history, and in spite of that it had conquered an absolute top place in the Olympus of black music of the Sixties; with "With This Ring" the famous (even if for other songs) Platters celebrated the wedding ring and its meaning, with a surprising mixture of sweetness and intensity; finally, the obscure duo named Two People with "Stop! Leave My Heart Alone" told about a wrong love story, with the strength of the classic Soul male duets such as the prestigious Sam & Dave amongst many others. In all the three cases the Blue-Eyed Soul Team version includes personal ingredients that don't damage the originals but rather avoid them to look like flat reproductions.

The lineup of Blue-Eyed Soul Team includes (see picture above): Stefano "ConcoBeach" Faini on drums; Claudia "Gorgeous" Serra on backing and lead vocals; Marco "DocTube" Pepe on keyboards and backing vocals; Claudio "Dr. Soul" Falcone on lead vocals; Gino "BassDancer" De Angelis on bass; Maria "Charmful" De Vecchi on backing and lead vocals; Giancarlo "Ginko" Di Fiore on guitar.

mistertokio&thebeatgoeson

Album of the year!! We only need to decide if 2005 or 2006, as the CD has been published in 2005 but we will see it grow in 2006.

Alex Loggia really made it! The singer guitar-master composer producer from Torino sometime known as "Il Santo (The Saint)" got together with his band and released a 18 tracks masterpiece of 70 minutes, including 8 brand new songs in English with the new line up and 10 songs in Italian, remixed from the great lost treasure that was the unreleased album by supergroup "Il Santo" (Alex Loggia/Oscar Bruno/Mike Painter/Max Tinozzi). The "English" tracks are a revelation too, Alex is back to the -Soul-, and the influence of his mentor Paul Weller is clear from the opening "Mini" (featuring guest Andrew McFarlane / Hormonauts) to the Style Council-ish fantastic "Nothing". Mister Tokio now are a 9-head beast with a monster 3 pieces horn section. Check out their website www.mistertokio.com for concerts and updates.

Book tickets here for EXCLUSIVE London showcase
gig on August 16th

From The Six Corners
Released by Sanctuary Records on September 26, 2005

Described as "nothing less than extraordinary" by Mojo magazine, Players are surely the most exciting Funk band in Britain today.

They are aptly named. Mixing a 21st Century attitude with cunning grooves and seasoned musicianship honed from years of experience, the band pay respect to the past whilst creating music for the future. In short, Players mix a fresh contemporary approach with music charmed by an infectious familiarity. Now following on from their critically acclaimed 2003 debut, 'Clear The Decks', comes 'From The Six Corners', an album of all new material to be released by Sanctuary Records on September 26th, 2005. The first single to be taken from the album, Whats Your Problem, will be released on September 5th, 2005.

Players' nucleus boasts an illustrious pedigree. There's Mick Talbot, Hammond organ maestro, who's provided keys for Dexy's Midnight Runners, The Bureau, The Style Council, and Galliano. There's Steve White, talented sticksman who's played with the James Taylor Quartet, The Style Council and is currently playing drums for Paul Weller. Finally there's Damon Minchella, the one-time bassist with Ocean Colour Scene and currently a member of Paul Weller's band alongside Steve.

'From The Six Corners' also features the astounding vocal talent of Kelly Dickson whose raucous, funk delivery recalls that of Marlena Shaw's on her late '60's Cadet recordings and Ken and Carl Papenfus; the former on guitar/vocals, the latter on percussion/vocals - both from the Irish band Relish who's last album went platinum in their homeland.

Exactly one week after the new line up of Players debuted at Glastonbury, Steve White and Damon Minchella proved they are up there with the best by stepping in to play with The Who at Live 8. "Performing to an audience of over 200,000 people, playing bass with the Who at Live 8, reflects Damon, "bloody hell, that's going to be difficult to beat!"
